DR. RICARDO ORTIZ, MD, DMD

TMH Trauma Surgeon
Dr.Ortiz joined the TMH (Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare) Facial Trauma Team where he functions as the senior surgeon for the most complex cases. Dr. Ortiz practices a full spectrum Oral Maxillofacial Surgery (TMJ Surgery, Dental Implants, Pathology, Dentoalveolar Surgery, Corrective Jaw Surgery) in private practice. Dr. Ortiz is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Ricardo Ortiz graduated from Dental School (DMD) and then attended Harvard Medical School, completing a Medical Degree (MD). He continued his Medical and Dental education at Harvard / Massachusetts General Hospital, completing a Maxillofacial Surgery Residency and two years of General Surgery. He also trained at Boston Children’s Hospital in the Department of Plastic and Oral Surgery, where he assisted in the care of patients with craniofacial anomalies.
Upon graduation, he became a Faculty Surgeon at the Navy Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program in San Diego Californi,a until he retired from the NAVY in February 2018.
Retired Military
Dr. Ortiz was born in Puerto Rico and completed his undergraduate and ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps, US ARMY) at the University of Puerto Rico. He commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Army and served in an Infantry Battalion of the First Cavalry Division Combat Team at Fort Hood, Texas. He served a combat tour in Iraq with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team/Infantry First Cavalry. His exposure to Facial Trauma in Iraq motivated him to become an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Dr. Ortiz returned from Iraq in 2005 and joined the US NAVY.
